The Best Path

Today's Scripture

This time GOD said, “Don’t attack them head-on. Instead, circle around behind them and ambush them from the grove of sacred trees.”

-2 Samuel 5:23, MSG

Ugunda, a few months prior to today’s Scripture, the Philistines had come up the same valley, and when David inquired of the Lord as to what to do, the Lord said to attack them. When the Philistines came again after their first defeat, David could have assumed, “No need to ask God this time. I know what to do.” But David realized that yesterday’s information may not be appropriate for today’s challenge. So, he inquired of the Lord again. It was the same enemy, the same valley, but this time God said, “I have a different strategy for you.”

God’s ways are not our ways. He doesn’t want you to get hooked on a formula, He wants you to be hooked on Him. He wants you to develop this habit of getting daily direction, asking, “God, how do You want me to respond to this problem? God, give me Your wisdom, Your ideas, Your favor.” That’s how God leads you down the best path for your life. You can’t respond to every problem the same way.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for Your promise that You will lead me down the best path for my life as long as I keep seeking Your will. Thank You that I don’t have to figure it out on my own. Help me to not assume that I know what to do and can respond to problems the same way. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
